USE OF TINCTURE OF IODINE
TO DETERMINE IODINE DEFICIENCY
AND TO IMPROVE THYROID FUNCTION*

Your thyroid, located at the frontal base of the neck, is a key gland that indirectly, through the production of thyroxine, furnishes energy to every cell in your body. It is dependent on a balance of manganese and especially iodine. When iodine is deficient, your thyroid cannot efficiently produce adequate amounts of thyroxine.

Thyroid

An easy and economical method of determining an iodine deficiency is to apply a tincture of iodine to your skin. If the reddish brown stain fades in 12 hours or less, iodine is insufficient. Your thyroid may not be adequately functioning, even if you are taking iodine orally. When the stain is apparent after 24 hours, your thyroid will more likely be functioning normally. If you are taking iodine orally, you may be able to reduce the dosage or stop taking it altogether.

Method of Application

Use an applicator rod to apply iodine to the upper thigh in a 3″ by 3″ square patch.  Apply twice daily: in the morning after you’ve showered and before bed if the patch has faded. When you notice a slight reddish brown stain remaining after 12 hours, check in another 12 hours for the stain. If your skin is clear after 24 hours, continue application once per day until stain is apparent after 24 hours. Discontinue when you observe a stain 24 hours after application.

Re-check iodine absorption every 3 months. Repeat the process above if the stain patch fades in 24 hours.
